The scenes from the film “Le chemin du serpent”(“Serpent’s Path”) starring Kou Shibasaki have been released, which is helmed by “Wife of a Spy” Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

This is Kurosawa’s first attempt at a self-remake of his masterpiece suspense film “Serpent’s Path (1998),” which has been remade across borders after a 26-year interval. The film is a co-production between Japan and France, co-produced by CINEFRANCE STUDIOS and KADOKAWA, and was entirely shot on location in France and in French.

Albert Bachelet (Damien Bonnard) grieves for the loss of his 8-year-old daughter who was killed by someone. He is determined to uncover who murdered her and take revenge with the assistance of psychiatrist Sayoko Niijima (Shibasaki) whom he met by chance. Who killed my daughter and why? The truth slowly becomes clear as the two abduct individuals associated with a certain foundation. Gradually, the truth of what happened is revealed as the two abduct the people involved in the foundation, and they are committed to bringing the murderer to justice. The path they await is either the path of a man or the path of a snake.

Upon discovering that a foundation is involved in the case, the two embark on a ‘thorough revenge’ mission. According to the released scene photos, Albert and Sayoko are abducting and imprisoning people associated with the foundation one after the other, and subjecting them to torturous treatment.

Sayoko’s madness is evident through her cold gaze and merciless knife wielding. What is Sayoko’s real motivation for being both a doctor and revenge-seeking? Director Kurosawa praised Shibasaki, saying, ‘Her sharp, suspicious eyes and beastly body language elevated this film to a more mysterious and profound work than the original.’

The film will open in June 14th in Japan.
