Netflix Renews ‘Emily in Paris’ for a Fifth Season

Emily in Paris will be returning for a fifth season on Netflix, says the show’s creator Darren Star. The fourth season of the popular series made its debut on August 12 with Emily Scott moving to Rome for a romantic liaison with an Italian fashion executive. Lily Collins plays the leading role of Emily, and her Italian lover, Marcello, is played by Eugenio Franceschini.

The season’s premiere quickly rose to the number one position in Netflix’s ratings, with 19.9 million views in just the first four days. The second part of Season four debuted on September 12.

Star stressed, however, that Paris would continue to be the primary venue for the series, telling Deadline: “She didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome. She is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet. I don’t necessarily think that it means a permanent — in my mind, it’s definitely not a permanent — move to Rome. We’re not leaving Paris.”

In an interview on Good Morning America on Monday, Collins said: “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

Earlier, in Paris, Emily had been seen juggling her love interests with two other men: Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo, and Alfie, played by Lucien Laviscount. According to the show’s synopsis: “as old patterns clash with new complications, Emily feels drawn to a potential new love interest… and a new city.”

Other cast members of Emily in Paris include William Abadie, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, Ashley Park, and Camille Razat. In Season 4, they were joined by Thalia Besson, who plays Genevieve, a New Yorker who has her run-ins with Emily after the two start working together at Agence Grateau.
