Top Boy British actor Micheal Ward is facing charges of rape and sexual assault. The 27-year-old actor is scheduled to answer the charges when he appears in Thames Magistrates Court in London on August 28.
Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, has been quoted as saying: “Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Micheal Ward, 27, with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman in January 2023.
“We remind all concerned that proceedings against the suspect are active and he has a right to a fair trial…It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” she continued.
Scott Ware, superintendent of the detective team that is leading the investigation, added that “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward. We know investigations of this nature can have a significant impact on those who make reports.”
In response, Ward issued a statement saying that “I deny the charges against me entirely. I have cooperated fully with the police throughout their investigation and will continue to cooperate. I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared. Given those proceedings, I am unable to comment further.”
The Jamaican-born Ward, whose most recent project was Ari Aster’s Eddington film, has starred in several other productions over the past decade, including Brotherhood, Blue Story, The Old Guard, Small Axe: Lovers Rock, Empire of Light, The Book of Clarence, and Bob Marley: One Love. He is best known for his role as Jamie in the television series Top Boy on Netflix.
According to a published report in Deadline, Ward has been dropped by Olivia Bell Management, his agent in the UK. He is represented in the US by CAA,
