The song for the historical drama musical film “The Testament of Ann Lee” has been unveiled by Searchlight at its premiere. The film is set to debut in 70mm and will be available in select cinemas on Christmas Day. The film was directed by Norway’s Mona Fastvold, who also co-wrote it with her partner and fellow filmmaker Brady Corbet.

Fastvold and Corbet co-wrote the scripts for Corbet’s films “The Brutalist,” “The Childhood of a Leader,” and “Vox Lux”, and have brought some talent from those films with them, including choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hall and Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg.

The inspiration for “Testament” comes from the remarkable true story of Ann Lee, the founder of the devotional sect known as the Shakers.

The film seeks to capture the ecstatic and agony of her endeavor to create a utopia. It accomplishes this by reimagining over a dozen traditional Shaker hymns as significant singing and dancing numbers.

Besides Amanda and Daniel, the film also stars Thomasin Mckenzie, Lewis Pullman, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott, Stacy Martin, Matthew Beard, Scott Handy, Viola Prettejohn, Jamie Bogyo and David Cale.

Here’s the official teaser.
