On Sunday afternoon, officials reported the death of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele in their Brentwood mansion.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department reported that a man and a woman who were approximately 78 and 68 years old had been found dead inside. NBC News has been informed by a close friend of Reiner that Reiner and his wife were the individuals who were discovered dead inside the mansion with apparent stab wounds.

LAPD Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton mentioned that detectives are not looking for anyone as a suspect or a person of interest until they carry out their investigation. Hamilton didn’t disclose the victims’ names, but stated that the LA County Coroner will provide that information at a later time.

“In order to proceed with the investigation, we must obtain a search warrant as there are issues with standing at this residence. Once those legal requirements are satisfied, we can proceed.” Hamilton stated that the search warrant will be granted to investigators soon and noted that the Robbery Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department would be in charge of the death investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department gave an update on the discovery of two bodies at the home of film director Rob Reiner. According to neighbors, Reiner, 78, and his 68-year-old wife live in the house, and property records indicate that they are the owners of the property.

The filmmaking legend and his wife, Michele, got married in 1989 and have three children together, Jake, Nick, and Romy.Tracy Reiner, Rob Reiner’s adopted daughter from his marriage to ex-wife Penny Marshall, said she was speechless upon hearing about their death. “I came from the greatest family ever,” said Tracey Reiner. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”Local and state leaders mourned the loss of the married couple.

“Personally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him. Among his numerous contributions, Rob helped create First 5 California, a landmark initiative funded by a tobacco tax to support early childhood development programs. He and Michele fought for early childhood development and marriage equality, working to overturn Proposition 8. They were true champions for LGBTQ+ rights,” a Los Angels Mayor Karen Bass in a statement.

“Jen and I are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner,” said Gov. Newsom in a statement Sunday. “Rob was the big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love, with projects as wide-ranging as “The Princess Bride” to “A Few Good Men.” His boundless empathy made his stories timeless, teaching generations how to see goodness and righteousness in others – and encouraging us to dream bigger.”

“The news of a deadly assault on Rob and Michelle Reiner in their home is devastating. It’s hard to think of anyone more remarkable and excellent in every field and endeavor they pursued. Rob was creative, funny, and beloved. And in all of their endeavors, Michelle was his indispensable partner, intellectual resource, and loving wife,” said Nancy Pelosi.

Reiner is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actor known for his films “Stand By Me,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally.”

Additional Report: According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records, Nick Reiner was taken into custody late Sunday and booked into jail on a felony charge. He’s being held on $4 million bail.

Editor’s comment : The death of a beloved Hollywood director, Rob Reiner, has left me feeling a lot of emotions. I can’t really describe my emotions in a cohesive sentence yet. I just reported what was happening so far.

During my time in Japan, Steven Spielberg and Rob Reiner’s movies sparked my admiration for American culture. I can’t recall missing any of their movies from the 80s to 2000.

Regardless of age differences, anyone can connect with some of the harsh realities, humor, and heartwarming stories in movies, and I really enjoyed this true form of entertainment. The sense of connection resonated among the audiences, even when I was naive as a child, release of their films worldwide could potentially prevent conflicts or wars, as their films consistently emphasize the value of human life. His films had a powerful impact on me and the rest of the film community.
