Dracula : Exclusive Video Interview with Writer-Director Luc Besson

The world’s most fantastical, mythical monsters aren’t always just driven for their lust for blood; they can also be compelled by a crusade to bring back their lost love, no matter what the quest costs them. The new action-horror-romance film, Dracula, is a fresh reimagining of the timeless legend as he embarks on such a journey.

But during his trek, the titular vampire i relentlessly hunted by a priest who’s sworn to end his immortal reign. The latter believes it’s his divine mission to destroy the creature once and for all.

The drama dives deep into the heart of one of mythology’s most iconic monsters – the character of the same name from the acclaimed 1897 novel by Bram Stoker. The eponymous character is fueled by an ancient thirst for both blood and a true love that transcends centuries.

Luc Besson wrote, directed and produced Dracula. Caleb Landry Jones played the movie’s titular character. The duo reunited on the film after they previously worked together on the 2023 action thriller, Dogman. Besides Jones, the new drama also stars Christoph Waltz, Zoë Bleu, Guillaume de Tonquedec, Matilda de Angelis, Ewens Abid and Raphael Luce.

Dracula follows a 15th-century prince (Jones) as he witnesses the brutal murder of his wife, Elisabeta (Bleu). As a result, he renounces God and damns heaven itself.

Cursed with eternal life, he’s reborn as Dracula. As a newly immortal warlord, he defies fate in a blood-soaked crusade to wrench his lost love back from death, no matter the cost. On the verge of reuniting, a relentless priest (Waltz) hunts Dracula, sworn to end his immortal reign.

Dracula is now playing in North American theaters, courtesy of Vertical. To help promote the film’s theatrical release, Besson and Waltz generously took the time recently to talk about penning, helming, producing and starring in the screen adaptation during individual exclusive interviews over Zoom.
