Yesterday’s announcement that Patrick Wilson had joined the cast has now been followed up by the news that Jason Ritter has also been added to the cast for the third and likely final season of HBO’s TV series adaptation of “The Last of Us“.

According to Deadline, Ritter, who played the role of a Clicker in two episodes of the first season as part of the “Matlock” cast, will take on the role of an original character called Hanley, who was a soldier in the Washington Liberation Front (WLF).

Ritter’s wife Melanie Lynskey played a pivotal part in two episodes of the first season as a guest star. In addition, the trade confirms that Wilson will indeed be portraying the father of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), as was speculated yesterday.

Meanwhile Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord have all been promoted o series regulars for the third season. The trio, who were recurring in the second season, played Abby’s cohorts Mel, Nora and Own respectively.

These additions are part of the already announced inclusions, which include Jorge Lendeborg Jr., who will take over Manny’s role from Danny Ramirez. Jeffrey Wright is returning as Isaac Dixon, while Clea DuVall is playing a Seraphites member.

Due to the shift in focus from Abby throughout the season and the three-day time jump, it is not clear how many episodes previous regular cast members like Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and Isabel Merced will appear in.

The third season is led by Craig Mazin as the sole showrunner after Neil Druckmann, the game creator and co-showrunner, departed. The second half of ‘The Last of Us Part II’ game will be adapted by the new run that will start filming shortly.
