Kane Parsons’ “Backrooms” is currently topping the domestic box-office in its debut, aligning with expectations.

The Friday takings for this title totaled $38.4 million in its opening day earnings (including previews).

That’s easily the largest opening weekend ever for an A24 film, bigger than last week’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which debuted with $81.6 million.

What’s noteworthy is that the film’s budget stood at $10 million, with marketing expenditures reported to be on par, thanks to a strategic online campaign.

The flick, which scored a meager B- CinemaScore, is launching in approximately 50 additional territories this weekend, where it is anticipated to bring in an extra $36 million.

Obsession” by Curry Barker is expected to rise in its third week of release, topping the box office with a $28.5 million haul, a 19% increase from its previous weekend’s performance.

The Mandalorian and Grogu” is projected to see a drop of at least 69% in its second weekend, potentially dropping as low as $25 million – the steepest second weekend decline ever for a “Star Wars” film.

The Breadwinner” and “Pressure” took in $7.5 million and $5.4 million respectively in 5th and 7th place.
