Toho and GKIDS Films have dropped a new featurette for “Godzilla Minus Zero,” Toho’s follow-up to their highly regarded, globally popular and Oscar-nominated “Godzilla Minus One”.

Writer/director Takashi Yamazaki, who is also the VFX wizard, returns to his company Shirogumi for this film once more, just as they handled the visual effects for the previous movie.

2023’s “Godzilla Minus One,” following 2016’s “Shin Godzilla,” which took place in post-WW2, devastated Japan, saw a new wave of destruction as Godzilla unleashed havoc anew.

Grossing $116 million from a $15 million budget, it became the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film of 2023, ranking as the third highest-grossing non-English-language film in the U.S. market, with strong critical and audience reception.

Set two years later in 1949, the film follows Japan’s journey as it attempts to move beyond the horrors of war and the presence of monsters. However, peace is fleeting when Godzilla reappears, fully restored, bigger and more aggressive – threatening the delicate nation.

“Godzilla Minus Zero” was shot entirely in Japan and is the inaugural Japanese production filmed for IMAX, utilizing high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX and adjusted for optimal viewing on IMAX screens, featuring high-definition sound and visuals.

“Godzilla Minus Zero” will make its world premiere as part of the Spotlight Gala selection at the 64th New York Film Festival on Sept. 26. The film opens in Japan on Nov. 3 before its wide North American release three days later.
