Sony Pictures has debuted the complete trailer for “The Social Reckoning,” a follow-up to David Fincher’s Academy Award-winning 2010 thriller “The Social Network.”

The scripts for both films were penned by Aaron Sorkin, the creator of “The West Wing,” who will now direct instead of Fincher.

The story traces Frances Haugen’s (Mikey Madison) journey as a young Facebook engineer who, with the assistance of Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, uncovers Facebook’s hidden secrets, a risky endeavor that eventually leads to exposing the company’s most guarded information.

With Jeremy Strong, Bill Burr, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Wunmi Mosaku in the cast, Mark Zuckerberg is portrayed in the film. It is claimed that the film drew inspiration from a series of articles penned by Horwitz titled “The Facebook Files”.

Those studies examined the company’s own reports on the adverse impacts social media had on teens and kids, noted the spread of misinformation leading to violence, and highlighted the role the platform played in the 2021 U.S. Capitol insurrection.

Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the film, which opens October 9th.
