Toho and GKIDS Films have release a full trailer for a highly anticipated “Godzilla Minus Zero,” the sequel to Toho’s critically acclaimed, internationally successful and Oscar-winning “Godzilla Minus One”.
The 2023 film, takes place in a devastated post-WWII Japan as the country is hit by a new wave of devastation unleashed by Godzilla. The sequel is set two years later in 1949, as Japan grapples to move past the horrors of war and the extraordinary creatures that emerged. However, peace is fleeting when Godzilla reappears, fully revitalized, bigger and more menacing – posing a perilous threat to the delicate nation.
The first Japanese IMAX film production is showcased in the trailer with its aspect ratio expanding in the latter part. We detect an indication that King Ghidorah is about to appear.
Returning to his roles as writer and director alongside his VFX expertise, Takashi Yamazaki works with his company Shirogumi once more. This time, they handle the visual effects for this film, following their work on the previous one.
With a budget of $15 million, the first film grossed $116 million, marking the highest-grossing live-action debut in Japan in 2023. It also ranked third in the U.S. market by box office earnings, a feat bolstered by strong critical and audience reception.
“Godzilla Minus Zero” opens in cinemas on November 6th.
