Anna Sawai‘s star-making performance in the FX series “Shōgun” suggests that she has landed a big follow-up. Deadline reported that the Emmy winner will be co-starring in Amazon MGM Studios’ “How to Rob a Bank”, directed by David Leitch, Imagine Entertainment, and 87 North Productions.
While the plot is still being kept a secret, Leitch’s history of delivering big thrills and fun set pieces in movies like “Bullet Train“, “Deadpool 2“, and most recently “The Fall Guy” means that you can expect something similar in scope. The production will be done by Kelly McCormick and Leitch from 87North, as will Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum from Imagine.
Last year, Sawai caused quite a stir with her Emmy-winning performance in “Shōgun“, which resulted in her winning the Golden Globe for Actress in a Television Series – Drama, an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and a SAG Award for Female Actor in a Drama Series.
Sawai is currently busy with production work on “(Saint) Peter“, directed by Peter Farrelly, and has just wrapped up the second season of Apple TV+’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters“.
David Leitch is responsible for directing multiple projects in different production stages, which include “Undying Love“, “Hot Air“, “How to Rob a Bank“, and “Button Man“. “Undying Love” is a romantic action drama that explores the relationship between an ex-soldier and a vampire. However, in order to be with her, he must confront her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld.
Meanwhile, “Hot Air” stars Andrew Garfield as Richard Branson. The story focuses on a renowned British entrepreneur. Finally, Leitch’s “Button Man” series focuses on former elite soldier Harry Exton, who joins a deadly underground game pitting elite killers against each other.
