Lethal Weapon alum Chandler Kinney and Zombies 2 actress Maia Reficco are set to star in HBO Max’s coming-of-age drama, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina director Lisa Soper is onboard to direct the first two episodes of Original Sin. Production is slated to begin later this summer at Upriver Studios in New York.
The show follows new characters and takes place in a different town, but in the same universe, as Pretty Little Liars, a young-adult mystery thriller which ran for seven seasons on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) from 2010 to 2017. “Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart,” the streaming service said in a synopsis for Original Sin.
“Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago… as well as their own.” HBO Max said Kinney will play Tabby, “an aspiring director and horror movie buff.
Like the other Little Liars, Tabby’s hiding a secret.” Reficco will play Noa, who is described as “a striving, sardonic track star who’s working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention.
”
The spin-off is from executive producer/writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and co-executive producer/writer Lindsay Calhoon Bring, who previously collaborated on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Aguirre-Sacasa is also a writer/producer on Riverdale. He celebrated Friday’s news of Kinney’s and Reficco’s casting with an Instagram post. “
