Keanu Reeves is gearing up for his next big role, starring in The Devil in the White City, a TV series adaptation of the 2003 book of the same name by Erik Larson for Hulu. According to Deadline, negotiations are underway on the project, which has been in discussion since Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the film rights to the book in 2010, which originally had it slated as a movie for Martin Scorsese to direct at Paramount.

Now, frequent collaborators DiCaprio and Scorsese are on board as executive producers for the Hulu series with Rick Yorn, Jennifer Davisson, Stacey Sher, and Sam Shaw, who will also write the series. Todd Field will be taking on directing duties, helming the first two installments. Producers include Paramount TV Studios, ABC Signature, and Appian Way.

While it’s not clear who Reeves would play, The Devil in the White City is set at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. It centers on two men, Daniel H. Burnham and Henry H. Holmes, who have radically different plans for the big spectacle. Burnham is an architect and Holmes is a doctor who moonlights as a serial killer, one who sees a great opportunity to build a pharmaceutical “Murder Castle” where he can torture and kill his victims.

Reeves is fresh off starring in The Matrix Resurrections, reprising a role he first played in The Matrix back in 1999. LAD Bible shared that Reeves donated 70% of his salary from the original film, which amounted to $31.5 million, to leukemia research, inspired by his younger sister’s battle with the disease. She was diagnosed in 1991 and entered remission ten years later. Reeves also created a charity for those living with cancer but did not attach his name to it.

Reeves has a reputation as a nice guy, and this news only confirms his kind nature. While reviews for The Matrix Resurrections haven’t been entirely positive (ours mostly was), he’s soon returning to a franchise that has only become more well-regarded as it has continued. He’s set to play the title character in John Wick: Chapter 4, which will be released sometime in 2023. He also has a voice role lined up for DC League of Super-Pets.
