Dakota Johnson is facing one of the most challenging tasks in her latest film, “Materialists“: deciding whether to marry Chris Evans or Pedro Pascal. Celine Song’s sophomore A24 film features the trio, and it’s about a love triangle, much like Song’s Oscar-nominated drama “Past Lives“.
The longline reads : “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker (Johnson) finds herself torn between the perfect match (Pascal) and her imperfect ex (Evans).” This story of a love triangle features Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, with Johnson playing an ambitious young female matchmaker in New York City who finds herself torn between two quite different people.
Besides Johnson, Pascal, and Evans, the film also stars Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova. The trailer also includes an original song by Japanese Breakfast. Christine Vachon’s Killers Films produces “Materialists” along with David Hinojosa, Pamela Koffler, and Song. Killers Films also had produced Song’s “Past Lives.”
Johnson is expected to be the lead in the open marriage comedy “Splitsville” alongside Adria Arjona and Michael Covino, who are also the writers and directors. Evans is playing the lead role of a BDSM cult leader in Ethan Coen’s highly anticipated ‘Honey Don’t!’ with Aubrey Plaza and Margaret Qualley.
Pascal will be playing Mr. Fantastic in “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” and he also makes appearances in ‘Freaky Tales’ and ‘The Uninvited,’ and returns for the second season of “The Last of Us.”
A24 is releasing in theaters June 13.
