Crazy Rich Asians and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress Michelle Yeoh has signed on to star in The Witcher prequel series, The Witcher : Blood Origin, Netflix announced Tuesday.

The six-episode, live-action fantasy drama takes place 1,200 years before the events chronicled in The Witcher, which is based on the stories of Andrzej Sapkowski. The author is a creative consultant on the franchise.

Yeoh will co-star with Vikings alum Laurence O’Fuarain, who will play the warrior Fjall in The Witcher : Blood Origin. The Vampire Diaries and The Originals writer Declan de Barra is onboard as executive producer and showrunner.

The original series, The Witcher, debuted in 2019 with Man of Steel and Justice League actor Henry Cavill in the lead role. Season 2 is expected to premiere later this year.  Yeoh’s other credits include Star Trek: Discovery, Boss Level, Last Christmas, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Lady, Kung Fu Panda 2, Tomorrow Never Dies and Sunshine. She will soon be seen in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels and the Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings.

Yeoh will play Scían, which described as “very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves, no one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart.”
