According to a publicist Liz Rodrigue, “Reservoir Dogs” “Kill Bill” actor Michael Madsen, who frequently collaborated with director Quentin Tarantino and appeared in numerous acclaimed films from the 1980s onwards, has passed away.
Rodriguez reported to CNN that Madsen went into cardiac arrest and was found unresponsive at his Malibu home on Thursday morning.
Madsen began his TV career in the early 1980s, and his early performances, including “St. Elsewhere“, put him on the map. Madsen soon moved on to film, where he made a lasting impression in the 1991 film “Thelma & Louise“, as Jimmy, Louise’s put-upon love interest, played by Susan Sarandon.
This marked the start of a prolific period in the actor’s career, where they appeared in mostly action films, as well as westerns like 1994’s “Wyatt Earp.” Even though much of Madsen’s work focused on B-movies, he still appeared in high-profile hits like “Donnie Brasco” in 1997, the James Bond film “Die Another Day” in 2002, and 2005’s “Sin City“.
More than 320 credits to his name on IMDb, Madsen also had a whopping 18 titles in development at the time of his death.
In the statement from his representatives following his death, they said Madsen had been “doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films “Resurrection Road“, “Concessions” and “Cookbook for Southern Housewives.”
Legal and personal issues were a part of Madsen’s off-screen life, following a dispute with his wife DeAnna Madsen, he was arrested for domestic battery misdemeanor last year, as reported by Variety and online arrest records. A month later, the actor announced his divorce from DeAnna Madsen.
