SAG Nominations Led by ‘House of Gucci’ and ‘The Power of the Dog’

SAG Nominations Led by ‘House of Gucci’ and ‘The Power of the Dog’

Nominations for the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning by Rosario Dawson and Vanessa Hudgens. The acting group honors film and television projects but does not differentiate between lead and supporting performances. Its film prizes are often seen as a crucial benchmark on the way to Oscar attention.

House of Gucci surprised to emerge as the most-nominated film, tied with The Power of the Dog, which missed out on a bid for its ensemble, with the three nominations earned by each film. Performers like Javier Bardem in Being the Ricardos, Jennifer Hudson in Respect, Bradley Cooper in Licorice Pizza, and Cate Blanchett from Nightmare Alley got a boost by being included, while one entirely expected nominee, Kristen Stewart from Spencer, was unexpectedly left off the list.

The television nominations went all in on a few series, doling out five nominations to Succession and Ted Lasso. Squid Game, Mare of Easttown and The Morning Show were popular choices, earning four nominations each. Actress Jean Smart earned two individual citations, for her roles in series Hacks and Mare of Easttown.

Helen Mirren was previously announced as the recipient of the Life Achievement Award. The SAG Awards will be presented on TNT and TBS on Sunday, February 27th at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
