Sandra Oh will be appearing in Lionsgate’s Good Fortune, the directorial debut film by Aziz Ansari. The star-studded cast of the upcoming comedy already includes Seth Rogen, Keanu Reeves, and Keke Palmer, with Ansari himself playing a role as well as writing the script.

Ansari, who had starred in Parks and Recreation and Master of None, had hoped to make his debut in the director’s chair with the dramedy Being Mortal, but production was suspended in 2022 as a result of misconduct allegations against actor Bill Murray, its star.

News about Sandra Oh’s participation in Good Fortune came in a somewhat roundabout statement by Ansari himself: “It’s always so exciting when I get the opportunity to write a quote for a PR announcement. However, I’m pretty sure no one reads past the headline and gets to my quote except someone vetting this at Lionsgate PR. If you are genuinely reading up to this point, I’m a bit concerned. Have you read Crime and Punishment ? The novellas of Stefan Zweig ? I’ve also heard Lonesome Dove is wonderful. Anyway, Sandra Oh is wonderful and I’m so excited she is a part of our film. I must return to the edit now. Best wishes to all readers.”

Other details about Good Fortune’s plot and characters have not yet been released, and no release date has been announced.

Sandra Oh, a Canadian and American actress with Korean roots, first attracted widespread notice in 1994 when she appeared in the leading role in Double Happiness, an indie drama. She also appeared in The Princess Diaries, Full Frontal, and Sideways, and played a supporting role in Arliss, an HBO series. Her most prominent role was that of Cristina Yang in Grey’s Anatomy, in which she performed for ten seasons beginning in 2005. Oh also starred in Killing Eve, Quiz Lady, and Umma. Her next project will be HBO’s black comedy, The Sympathizer, in which she will star with Robert Downey, Jr.
