“Stranger Things” Actress Millie Bobby Brown Set to Release Debut Novel ‘Nineteen Steps’ in September

Acclaimes actress Millie Bobby Brown is turning to the literary world for her next project. The Stranger Things star is working with William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, on her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The book , which is scheduled to be released on September 12, is inspired by the actress’s own family history. Her grandmother, Ruth, survived the Bethnal Green tube disaster.

“Inspired by my Nanny Ruth, this book is very personal and close to my heart. I grew up listening to stories about her time living through the war. I’m honored to keep her story alive,” the Enola Holmes star said about Nineteen Steps in a statement.

The historical novel is being.described as an epic story of love, loss and secrets. It will center on 18-year-old Nellie Morris, who lives with her family in Bethnal Green during World War II.

After a chance encounter with an American airman stationed nearby, Nellie becomes enchanted with the idea of a broader world. Just when she begins to embrace an exciting new life with Ray, a terrible incident occurs during an air raid one evening, and the consequences are catastrophic.

As the truth about that night is revealed, Nellie’s world is torn apart. When it seems all hope is lost, she finds that, against all odds, love and happiness can triumph.

William Morrow acquired US and Canadian rights to publish the novel. The publisher’s executive editor, Liz Stein, negotiated the deal with Alyssa Reuben at William Morris Endeavor.

“Nineteen Steps is a tender, inspiring story about female resilience and the human spirit,” Stein said. “Both heart-warming and heart-breaking, it’s a novel that portrays the strength and courage we find in family, friendship and community. I was incredibly moved by the haunting, true tragedy at the core of the novel and enchanted by the unforgettable portrait of love in the time of war.”
