The Suicide Squad and Altered Carbon actor Joel Kinnaman is under investigation after a woman accused him of rape, according to officials in Sweden. The Swedish Prosecution Authority confirmed the investigation to E! News. “The prosecutor got the case today and has hardly been able to look at it. She has said there is a need for further investigative matters before she can make a decision,” a representative for the prosecutor’s office said Wednesday.
Few details pertaining to the case were released, but the spokesperson said it is likely investigators will want to speak with the actor. His publicist told TMZ and The New York Post that the woman who made the complaint contacted police after he requested and was granted a restraining order against her.
Kinnaman addressed the situation on Instagram last week.
He said he had consensual sex with Gabriella Magnusson, a model known professionally as Bella Davis, but that she threatened to ruin his reputation unless he paid her and helped advance her career.
His post was in response to Davis’ earlier online allegations that he sexually assaulted her twice, then tried to prevent her from reporting it, The Daily Beast said.
Kinnaman, who is also known for his roles in the TV shows The Killing and For All Mankind, has filed a police report against the model in Sweden, claiming he was a victim of extortion at her hands. He reportedly is working with officials to clear his name.
