A new glimpse of Edgar Wright‘s set of “The Running Man” has been revealed.
His career has seen him explore different genres, such as heist thrillers, psychological horror set in the 60s, and music documentaries. His next move is to adapt a Stephen King novel, which is a new venture for him.
“The Running Man” will be based on Stephen King‘s novel of the same name. The book was written under the author’s pseudonym, Richard Bachman. The story of the book is centered around a television game show where people are hunted down for the entertainment of the audience. The contestant who manages to walk away with their life wins an impressive cash prize. Amusingly enough, the dystopian premise of the original 1982 novel takes place in 2025.
It seems that Wright’s attention is concentrated on the set of the production that will showcase Glen Powell‘s Ben Richards, a character who will do everything in his power to avoid being hunted down for entertainment on the show in question.
Powell has just finished his hot streak, which included “Anyone But You“, “Hit Man”, and Twisters, which saw him become the star of 2024. And Wright is confident you’ll see a new side of him here. “I felt it was important to see somebody who hadn’t really done something like this before,” explains Wright. “It’s similar to Bruce Willis, when he was still the guy from “Moonlighting“, before he did Die Hard”, where that adds to the suspense.
Daily Mail also revealed some of the set pics last year.
“The Running Man” will premiere in theaters in the United States on November 7.
