When it was released in 2002, 28 Days later was revolutionary. Though it is a movie about infected individuals and not zombies, it was instrumental in reviving a horror sub-genre. And while it was scary and horrifying, it was a beast all of its own; not your typical scary movie. And, even though its sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was missing the minds that brought you the original, it succeeded in its own right. But now, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are back with 28 Years Later. And the question is, does it hold up to the original?
Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has been training his son Spike (Alfie Williams) to go out into the treacherous wasteland in the Scottish Highlands to scavenge and hunt. On Spike’s official first trip out of their village gates, things don’t go as expected. But, it gives Spike some insight he never had and makes him think he has found a way to help his sick and ailing mother, Isla (Jodie Comer). Taking off on his own with his mother in tow, Spike ventures off against all advice to seek a cure for Isla’s grave condition.
