‘Air’ Trailer: Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to Recruit Michael Jordan in Nike Sports Drama

Amazon announced last month that “AIR will receive a traditional theatrical release across the globe before debuting on Prime Video at a late. The movie will play in 3,000 theatres before hitting the streaming service about 45 days after its theatrical release. It’s unheard of in the streaming world.

Now, MGM has dropped a new trailer for first glimpse of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s upcoming film about Nike’s game-changing early years. The trailer for “Air” dropped Thursday in advance of a Super Bowl spot for the Affleck-directed film, which is from Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports and Mandalay Pictures.

Damon stars as Sonny Vaccaro, the maverick Nike salesman who signed rising basketball player Michael Jordan to a shoe contract in the mid-’80s that launched the global, multibillion-dollar contemporary sneaker industry. Affleck plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight, while Viola Davis stars as Deloris Jordan, who was instrumental in negotiating the deal on behalf of her son.

The story follows : From award-winning director Ben Affleck, “AIR reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand. This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.

Additional cast includes Jason Bateman as Rob Strasser, Chris Messina as David Falk, Marlon Wayans as George Raveling, Chris Tucker as Howard White, Matthew Maher as Peter Moore, Gustaf Skarsgård as Horst Dassler and Julius Tennon as James Jordan.

Produced by Affleck, Damon, Peter Guber, Jason Michael Berman, Jeff Robinov, Madison Ainley, and David Ellison, “Air” will release exclusively in theatres on April 5.
