Searchlight Picture’s EMPIRE OF LIGHT | Teaser Trailer : Starring Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Directed by Sam Mendes

Searchlight Pictures has unveiled a new trailer of director Sam Mendes’ latest outing, “Empire of Light” which boasts an impressive cast led by “The Favourite” actress Olivia Colman and The A List” actor Micheal Ward.  (The movies selections are not intended to highlight the actors)

Following up the Oscar nominated World War I epic “1917,” director Sam Mendes set his eyes on the south coast of England in the 1980s, showcasing a love story and the power of cinema in “Empire of Light.” On top of Coleman and Ward, the film also includes Colin Firth, Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow and Crystal Clarke. 

Empire of Light” is set to make its debut at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (held September 8 through 18), where Mendes will be honored with the festival’s Ebert Director Award. Past recipients include Martin Scorsese, Claire Denis, Ava DuVernay, Wim Wenders. Mendes made his directorial debut at TIFF with “American Beauty” in 1999.

Empire of Light” marks the first title written and directed exclusively by Mendes. He reunites with Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins, the pair previously collaborated on “1917” and “Skyfall.”

“Empire of Light” hits theaters December 9.
