Regarding the new film of “Bridget Jones,’ the rumors have been circulating for years that Renée Zellweger is often being asked about a possible return.

It’s been six years since Renée Zellweger made her come back as a beloved rom-com heroine in “Bridget Jones’s Baby.” Now, it seems that a fourth installment is in the works, the series author Helen Fielding has confirmed she is working on a new cinematic chapter.

Fielding given the adaptation treatment for “Bridget Jones’s Diary” in 2001 and “The Edge of Reason,” in 2004 – For the next Bridget Jones installment, Fielding will adapt her third novel—“Mad About The Boy”

Fielding said, “Yes I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen,”  on Radio Times interview. “Every film that gets made is a miracle — it’s really difficult to make films happen and to make them good. But I’d love to see it on the screen.

”

“Mad about the Boy” was quite a controversial novel when it was published, as it dared to kill off Bridget’s true love, Mark Darcy. Taking place 14 years after the original “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” it features her raising their children alone while trying to adapt Henrik Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabler” into a screenplay and deal with the modern dating scene.

2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby wasn’t based on “Mad About the Boy,” but was instead an adaptation of columns Fielding wrote for The Independent between 2005 and 2006.

Zellweger joked in Entertainment Weekly “Bridget Jones: The Menopause” in 2019 when she was asked about a continuation of the story. “No, I know Helen’s [Fielding] written the book, and I love this character. So, I mean, if they call me, I’ll go running.”
