Marty, Life is Short, a documentary about Canadian-American comedian Martin Short, is scheduled to make its Netflix debut on May 12. To be directed by Lawrence Kasdan, the film will feature interviews with other comedians as well as never-before-seen archival footage.
Short, who is now starring in the role of director Oliver Puntum in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, first came to prominence as a writer and performer on SCTV. He won a Tony award for the Broadway show Little Me. Other theater credits include appearances in The Goodbye Girl and the autobiographical Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me.

The 75-year-old Short continues to star in Only Murders in the Building, alongside Steve Martin and Selena Gomez. He says he has no plans to retire. In June, he was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter as saying: “I’m not a believer in retirement just based on a number/ It’s designed for people who don’t really like their job and then they want to relax or they’re tired or they just want to do something else. But I like my job.”

Over the years, Short has also appeared in several films with his longtime colleague Steve Martin, including Father of the Bride and Three Amigos, In 2018, he and Martin appeared in the Netflix special  An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life.

This is not the first time Lawrence Kasdan will have worked with Short; in 1999 they had collaborated on Mumford. Kasdan’s directorial portfolio includes The Big Chili and Body Heat. He also wrote screenplays for Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Body Guard, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens.

Marty, Life is Short will be produced by director Kasdan together with Sara Bernstein, Meredith Kaulfers, Christopher St. John, Justin Wilkes, and Blair Foster. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, the founders of Imagine Entertainment, are serving as executive producers.
