The theatrical adaptation of “1 Liter of Tears,” originally published in 1986 and a massive hit as a TV drama series in 2005, will be released in 2027, it was announced on the 8th.

The tear-jerking, moving story comes to life as a film. Based on the non-fiction work by Aya Kito, it depicts the life of a girl battling spinocerebellar degeneration, bringing tears to many. Ryo Nishikido, who starred in the drama, will reprise his role as Haruto Aso after 20 years.

The newly released teaser captures the present-day Haruto saying, “If he knew people still read it even after 15 years, I wonder if he’d be happy.” Nishikido expressed his joy, stating, “This film is one of my foundational works. After all these years, I feel deeply honored to have the opportunity to confront this same role once more.”

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the theme songs will be the same as the drama’s: “March 9th” and “Powder Snow” by Remioromen. Both are representative songs of the band, and Ryota Fujimaki  shared his feelings about the work, saying, “For us, ‘1 Liter of Tears’ is a work of immeasurable significance.”

He added, “We hope this film, with its different timeline and approach from the original work and drama, will be a source of courage for many people living in today’s world. For us, it’s also a heartfelt way to repay the debt we owe. We sincerely hope Remioromen’s music can contribute to the film.”
