Disney+ won’t be moving forward with the initially announced live-action “Power Rangers” TV series, which was first proposed way back in 2025.

The team behind the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” TV series were tasked with writing, producing, and creating the show for the streamer along with Hasbro and 20th Century TV.

The objective was to “reinvent the franchise for a new fan base while also recognizing the original. Now, Deadline reports that Disney has turned down the project, citing economic rather than creative reasons.

Simply, the cost of mounting a “high-end, live-action superhero series” is not favorable for an IP that Disney doesn’t own (Hasbro does).

The initial series featured five teenagers who acquired the power to transform into superheroes called the Power Rangers, each equipped with their own mecha fighters. The series was translated into a film in 1995.

Following that point, the property has seen various alterations, notably the $100 million-budgeted film reboot in 2017 from Lionsgate, which introduced a more serious version of the franchise. The film earned just $142 million, and plans for the franchise were dropped.
