Anne Hathaway is slated to join with Tom Cruise in the “Days of Thunder 2“, a follow-up film that has now secured its premiere date – June 2nd, 2028.

Cruise himself shared the news on social media, posting a video and pictures of himself alongside Anne Hathaway, positioned next to a gleaming yellow and green race car. Cruise, now 64, will reprise his role as NASCAR star Cole Trickle. 43-year-old Hathaway will play an engineer and team owner.

Cruise played the lead role in the original film back in 1990, alongside his ex-wife Nicole Kidman. It follows a youthful and impulsive stock car driver, Cole Trickle, who enters NASCAR and must face personal and professional hurdles to succeed in the competitive realm of racing.

The film became a blockbuster, earning $157.9 million worldwide despite a production budget of $60 million. Jonathan Levine is scheduled to direct the forthcoming sequel, with a script penned by Will Staples. Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper will be producing.

Paramount Pictures has dated the feature film sequel for June 2, 2028, when Cruise and Hathaway will hit the road almost 40 years after the original Tony Scott film was released.
