Amazon Prime Video has revealed a trailer for the new television series adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel “Carrie“, a project created by the series’ visionary director, Mike Flanagan, for the acclaimed “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House“.

The eight-episode series represents the initial adaptation of the narrative for television series content. In the new take, misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has lived her life secluded within the confines of her home, hidden away from the world, under the watchful and protective gaze of her mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan).

Following her father’s unexpected, premature demise which pushes her into the challenging world of public high school, Carrie finds herself grappling with a widespread bullying scandal that devastates her community. The constant strain and casual cruelty of the social-media era, coupled with the emerging latent telekinetic abilities that accompany her adolescence.

Flanagan previously stated that those expecting a faithful adaptation should seek elsewhere, as he doesn’t think such an approach is worthwhile. He states that Brian DePalma’s 1976 motion picture remains with him as he perceives it to have “adapted it faithfully and beautifully”.

The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

“Carrie” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 7th.
