SYNOPSIS : In James Gray’s deeply felt and intense drama, two brothers become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through the dangerous world of the Russian mafiya, family bonds begin to fray with life-altering consequences.
JAMES GRAY made his directorial debut in 1994 at the age of 25 with LITTLE ODESSA, a widely acclaimed film which received the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. In 2000, Gray wrote and directed THE YARDS, his second feature and his first with Joaquin Phoenix, who would become a frequent collaborator, going on to star in his next three films: “WE OWN THE NIGHT” (2007), “TWO LOVERS” (2008) and “THE IMMIGRANT” (2013), all of which screened In Competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Gray’s “THE LOST CITY OF Z“, based on the best-selling novel by David Grann and starring Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller, Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, had its world premiere as the closing night selection of the 2016 New York Film Festival and was released in theaters by Amazon and Bleecker Street in 2017. Disney/Fox’s “AD ASTRA“, directed by Gray and starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, world premiered In Competition at the Venice Film Festival and was released in theaters in September 2019.
Focus Features’ “ARMAGEDDON TIME” – which he directed, wrote and produced – was inspired by his own childhood in 1980s Queens. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by screenings at the Telluride Film Festival and New York Film Festival before its release in October 2022.
Gray’s latest feature, “PAPER TIGER“, starring Scarlett Johansson, Miles Teller and Adam Driver, will once again premiere in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival and be released theatrically by Neon in Fall 2026. Born in New York City, Gray grew up in Queens and attended the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television.
ADAM DRIVER can recently be seen starring in Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis”. Adam appeared off-Broadway in “Hold On To Me Darling,” a play by Kenneth Lonergan and directed by Neil Pepe. He’ll next appear in James Gray’s “PAPER TIGER”, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, Ron Howard’s “Alone at Dawn”, with Anne Hathaway, and he is currently shooting “Rabbit, Rabbit” from showrunner Peter Craig and director Philip Barantini.
Driver garnered Academy Award® nominations for his roles in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” and Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman.” His many film credits include Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” and “The Last Duel, ” Leos Carax’s “Annette,” Jim Jarmusch’s “Paterson,” Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” Steven Soderbergh’s “Logan Lucky,” and Martin Scorsese’s “Silence”, to name a few. He is widely known for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Television credits include HBO’s critically acclaimed series, “Girls”, for which he received three consecutive Emmy® nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He received a fourth Emmy® nomination as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his guest hosting role on “Saturday Night Live. ”Driver starred in the first Broadway revival of Lanford Wilson’s “Burn This” directed by Michael Mayer. His performance as ‘Pale’ earned him a Tony Award® nomination for Best Performance in a Leading Role as well as a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance. Past Broadway credits include “Man and Boy” (dir. Maria Aitken), as well as “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” (dir. Doug Hughes). Off-Broadway, he starred in John Osborne’s “Look Back in Anger” (dir. Sam Gold), which earned him the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actor. Prior to that, he took the stage as Louis Ironson in The Signature’s revival “Angels in America” (dir. Michael Greif). Driver is a Juilliard graduate and former Marine.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON, Tony and BAFTA winner and two-time Oscar nominee, was most recently seen starring as ‘Zora Bennett’ in Jurassic World Rebirth, Kelly Jones’ in the Sony/Apple TV+ film, Fly Me to the Moon, and ‘Midge Campbell’ in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor The Great, which she also produced with her partners at These Pictures, had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and North American premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Johansson will star as ‘Hester Pearl’ in the upcoming crime drama film “PAPER TIGER“, which is set to premiere in the main competition of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Johansson will also star in the upcoming Mike Flanagan-directed The Exorcist and Matt Reeves-directed The Batman: Part II, both set to premiere in 2027.
In 2017, Johansson teamed with producing partners Keenan Flynn and Jonathan Lia to form These Pictures, a production company dedicated to bringing their unique brand of carefully curated film and TV projects to a global audience.
Johansson received her first two Academy Award nominations, for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” and Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit“, respectively, becoming the twelfth performer to be nominated for two Oscars in the same year. MILES TELLER has firmly established himself as one of Hollywood’s leading men, building a steadily expanding career defined by versatility, critical acclaim, and box office success. Most recently, Teller starred in A24’s Eternity, opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Callum Turner. The film further underscores his continued collaboration with prestige filmmakers and his ability to anchor character-driven stories, earning a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Comedy. He also headlined The Gorge, an Apple Original Film directed by Scott Derrickson and co-starring Anya Taylor- Joy. Released in February 2025, the high-action, genre-bending love story became Apple TV+’s biggest film debut to date. Teller additionally served as an executive producer on the project and received multiple Emmy Award nominations. Up next, Teller will appear in Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray and co-starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, which will make its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
Teller achieved global recognition portraying Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of the iconic “Goose,” in Paramount’s phenomenon Top Gun: Maverick, opposite Tom Cruise. Reuniting with director Joseph Kosinski, the film became the fifth highest-grossing domestic release of all time—surpassing Titanic—and grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide.
In Spring 2022, Teller starred as legendary Godfather producer Al Ruddy in Paramount+’s critically acclaimed limited series “The Offer“, earning widespread praise for his performance. That same year, he again teamed up with Kosinski for Netflix’s psychological sci-fi thriller Spiderhead, based on the George Saunders short story originally published in The New Yorker, co-starring Chris Hemsworth. Teller’s breakthrough performance came in Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash, opposite J.K. Simmons. The film received the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, won honors at the Deauville Film Festival, and earned Teller a Gotham Award nomination for Best Actor.
He first garnered critical attention in James Ponsoldt’s “The Spectacular Now“, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and earned him the Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting. That same year, he also starred in the comedy 21 & Over, written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Teller made his television debut in Amazon’s Too Old to Die Young, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and premiering at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The stylized noir series explored the criminal underworld of Los Angeles through a metaphysical lens, tracing the transformation of its characters from killers to would-be samurais.
His earlier film work includes Universal’s Thank You for Your Service, produced by Steven Spielberg; Sony’s Only the Brave alongside Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges; Warner Bros. “War Dogs“, directed by Todd Phillips; and the critically acclaimed Bleed for This, produced by Martin Scorsese, which reunited him with Rabbit Hole co-star Aaron Eckhart. Additional credits include That Awkward Moment with Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordan; the Divergent franchise opposite Shailene Woodley; Todd Phillips’ “Project X“; and Paramount’s remake of “Footloose“.
