Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae are now a married couple. The two were yoked in a low-key courthouse wedding, as first reported by the New York Post’s Page Six. The pair then flew off to Australia, where the bride was in the midst of shooting Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. She had earlier starred in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit.
Rumors of the couple’s imminent entanglement surfaced last month when the 26-year-old Taylor-Joy was spotted wearing a green-diamond engagement ring. The couple had reportedly been dating for a year and plan a more elaborate ceremony in the future. Taylor-Joy and McRae were seen together at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in February of this year.
The actress told British Vogue in March: “I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby…I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80 years old and 7 at the same time, and it works really well.”
Referring in the interview to their long-distance relationship, Taylor-Joy added, “Yes, it is [difficult], but it’s also kind of great because when you’re together you’re really valuing the time that you have. Everyday mundane activities are so full of joy. I love going to the petrol station with him and filling up the car and going to get breakfast.”
McRae marked the occasion by posting a photo of him and his bride on Instagram, captioned “I’m f–king proud of this girl.”
When the couple returned to Australia after the ceremony, Taylor-Joy seemed unable to conceal her joy, as reported in this eyewitness account by the Daily Mail: “She bounded off the plane and then seemed to flash the ring at her driver before getting in the car. She was either showing off the ring or doing a dance move.
Either way, she looked ecstatic.”
The actress, whose full name is Anya-Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy was born in Miami and raised in Buenos Aires and London. She has won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild awards. In 2021, she was included in Time magazine’s 100 Next list of “emerging leaders who are shaping the future.”
McRae, who first attracted notice as a child star in the early 2000s, is described in his IMDb biography as “a triple threat with his own brand of charm, gusto and sarcasm.” He also plays guitar and piano, and sings pop, folk, rockabilly, rock and musical theatre.
