Kevin Spacey to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award in Italy

Just two weeks after being acquitted of charges of sexual misconduct, actor Kevin Spacey is set to receive the Stella della Mole lifetime achievement award from Italy’s National Museum of Cinema in Turin. He will appear there in a masterclass and public forum on January 16, 2023, which will include a screening of one of his films.

“We are honored that such a prestigious guest as Kevin Spacey has chosen Turin and an institutional venue such as our museum for this welcome and long-awaited return,” said Enzo Ghigo, President of the National Museum of Cinema. “It is a privilege to host the Masterclass of one of the greatest cinema and theatre actors of our times.”

Previous winners of the prestigious award have included the director Dario Argento and actors Isabella Rossellini and Monica Bellucci.

Spacey had been somewhat of a persona non grata in the entertainment world since 2017, when it was revealed he had been the subject of 20 allegations of inappropriate conduct from men while he was working as artistic director of London’s Old Vic theater. In the wake of these accusations, Spacey lost his leading role in Netflix’s House of Cards and was edited out of Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World.

In addition, actor Anthony Rapp filed a $40 million lawsuit charging that Spacey had molested him (Spacey was 26 and Rapp was 14 at the time of the alleged misconduct). Spacey was found not guilty of the allegations by a New York jury just weeks ago, but still must undergo a trial in London in June of 2023.

In announcing it was honoring Spacey, the National Museum of Cinema specifically singled out his House of Cards role. Calling Spacey a “chameleonic star of contemporary world cinema,” the Museum declared it was “pleased to pay tribute to the award-winning actor who, over his decades-long career, has given a memorable face to complex, enigmatic, dynamic characters such as – among countless others – his acclaimed Frank Underwood from the world-famous series House of Cards.”

Spacey’s next project is a starring role in the upcoming thriller film Peter Five Eight.
