The focus of the new comedy Anyone But You is two people with absolutely no interest in getting along stuck in closer quarters that either of them wants. For director of photography Danny Ruhlmann, ACS, shooting this lighthearted film required a great deal of planning to capture comedic reactions, its Australian wedding destination city, and the interior of an airplane, among other optics.
I had the chance to speak with Ruhlmann about collaborating with director Will Gluck and getting to shoot in his hometown of Sydney. He discussed the advantages of working on a comedy and looked back at the science fiction series he’s shot in the past, comparing the challenges and opportunities to be found in different mediums.
