APPLE TV+Brad Pitt is hitting the track in the first-look poster for his upcoming Formula 1 movie. Apple Original Films, the studio behind the motorsports drama, also announced the feature’s title will be F1, in a post on X/Twitter.
The studio also share the trailer of the movie at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Apple also confirmed in the post that the film will be release in theaters in Summer 2025.
Warner Bros. Pictures is set to distribute the drama in American theaters on June 27, 2025. F1 will then become available on Apple TV+ on a later date.
The movie was directed by Top Gun: Maverick helmer, Joseph Kosinski. F1 reunites the director with Ehren Kruger, who served as one of the Oscar-nominated scribes on the hit 2022 sequel.
Kosinski previously revealed that he intended to use practical effects to film F1, rather than relying on CGI. The filmmaker made the decision after he garnered success doing so with his Top Gun follow-up.
In the upcoming drama, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former driver who makes a comeback at Formula 1. In the movie’s poster, Pitt is outfitted as Sonny in his Formula One suit and helmet.
Snowfall actor Damson Idris plays Sonny’s teammate on the fictional team, APXGP, while Javier Bardem plays a team owner. Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo also star in F1.
The film was made in collaboration with the Formula 1 community. The drama was shot during actual Grand Prix weekends alongside real-life champions of the sport.
Pitt and Idris were previously seen at the British Grand Prix last July to film scenes for the upcoming feature. During the shoot, the duo posed for photos with F1 champion Max Verstappen and racer Carlos Sainz.
The movie was not only filmed at Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix, but also at the Hungaroring near Budapest. Scenes were also shot at the historic Spa Francorchamps in Belgium; Japan’s popular Suzuka track; and Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit.
Production on F1 was delayed by last year’s joint actors’ and writers’ strike. Filming will continue at six other races this season.
Speaking with Sky News last year, Pitt shared some details about the drama. He said that his character competed in the 1990s, but eventually experienced a “horrible crash” and subsequently disappeared from the scene.
Pitt also discussed Bardem during the interview. The Oscar winner for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood noted that their characters’ team is “21-22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point, but they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and high jinks ensue.”
The Babylon star added: “You’ve never seen just the G-forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.”
F1 released a press release last month praising the feature, stating: “The movie is a landmark for the sport and cinema, filmed in real-time during grands prix around the world and involving the Formula 1 community, including all 10 teams, the drivers, the FIA and race promoters.
“The new feature film is set in the exhilarating and cinematic world of Formula 1 and will immerse audiences in the spectacle of the most popular annual sports series, celebrating the skill and heroism of the drivers while showcasing the incredible challenge of competition in Formula 1.”
Besides starring in F1, Pitt also produced the feature. His fellow producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman and seven-time F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton.
