A big-budget biopic about Donald Trump is under development by Andrea Iervolino, the producer of Ferrari and To the Bone. Plans for the ambitious project, which will cost $100 million, will be presented to investors at the Cannes festival next week. The film would likely be produced in the United States, rendering it immune from any tariffs the Trump administration has threatened to place on foreign-made films.
In announcing the project, Iervolino declared the proposed movie would be “a major new biographical film centered on the life and legacy of Donald J. Trump — real estate mogul, television icon, and 45th and 47th President of the United States.”
As Iervolino continued, “Whether one agrees or disagrees with his politics, there’s no denying Donald Trump’s impact on the modern era. As a producer, I’m interested in exploring the deeper story of the man — the rise, the challenges, the resilience. Our goal is to deliver a film that is bold, balanced, and artistically ambitious.”
Production is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year. No decisions have yet been made about who will be cast in the role of Donald Trump. In The Apprentice, Ali Abassi‘s 2024 biopic about Trump’s early career, Sebastian Stan played the younger Trump, and Jeremy Strong appeared in the role of Attorney Roy Cohn, who masterminded some of Trump’s sketchy initiatives.
Iervolino’s proposed film may try to portray Trump in a more balanced light, according to some observers. When The Apprentice debuted, Trump vehemently denounced the film, posting on Truth Social that it was “a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election, to try and hurt the Greatest Political Movement in the History of our Country, ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’”
Trump’s diatribe continued: “So sad that HUMAN SCUM, like the people involved in this hopefully unsuccessful enterprise, are allowed to say and do whatever they want in order to hurt a Political Movement, which is far bigger than any of us. MAGA2024!”
