The Oscar-nominated Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda has released a teaser trailer for his new coming-of-age drama “Look Back,” which is being distributed by GKIDS.
This project marks the first live-action version of the popular manga by author Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for the “Chainsaw Man” series.
The narrative centers on two high school students, one a home-body suffering from significant social phobia, who are united by their aspiration to become manga artists.
The Eisner Award-nominated web manga, first released on Shonen Jump+ in 2021, achieved widespread popularity with over 4 million views within two days.
The movie will pick up where a 2024 animated version directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama left off, which GKIDS also distributed and secured a significant accolade at the Annie Awards
Kore-eda is coming off the future-set drama “Sheep in a Box” about a couple who take in a state-of-the-art humanoid as their son.
