Disney has confirmed that the long-awaited R-rated remastered version of the 2008 “The X-Files” film, which was previously unseen, will be made available for streaming next month.

Last year, when Carter appeared on David Duchovny’s podcast “Fail Better,” he first hinted at this new version, noting he had “scared himself” while making it, leading to cuts for a PG-13 rating upon release.

Almost twenty years on, he says: “Now I have a chance to go back and make the scary movie that I always intended”. The result is a new version titled “The X-Files: I Want to Believe Vrach Frankenshteyn” which will premiere on Hulu on August 14th. Almost two decades later, he states, “Now I have a chance to revisit and create the most frightening film that I had always envisioned.”

Frankenstein, Vrach, is a Russian term referring to Dr. Frankenstein. This allusion encompasses both the haphazard nature of the new creation as well as the broader narrative of the film, which draws heavily on a Frankenstein-like plot involving harvested organs and transplanted human bodies.

The impact of the new cut isn’t clear to us yet, but we’ll discover that when it arrives four weeks from now.
