Mike Flanagan, the creator of the “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” series, recently unveiled the first trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming TV adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Carrie,” which he has adapted into a series.

This eight-episode series marks the first time the story has been adapted for series television. In the revised approach, the reclusive high school student Carrie White (played by Summer Howell) has lived her life isolated within the confines of her home, shielded by her overprotective mother Margaret (played by Samantha Sloyan).

Following her father’s unexpected death that abruptly thrusts her into the hostile environment of public high school, Carrie is compelled to deal with an online bullying crisis that spreads through her community, the unrelenting strain and casual cruelty of the social-media era, combined with the awakening of hidden telekinetic abilities that coincide with her growing up.

Flanagan previously stated that those expecting a faithful remake should look elsewhere since he doesn’t think it worthwhile, given his belief that Brian DePalma’s 1976 original adaptation was “faithful and beautiful”.

The fresh approach is a tale of greater scope, featuring multiple other characters with distinct capabilities. Key plot elements will remain while certain scenes, particularly the prom, will undergo significant changes.

The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

Carrie” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 7th.
