According to The Playlist, Netflix is no longer pursuing David Fincher‘s planned English-language follow-up to the popular Korean phenomenon “Squid Game,” which had been in development for some time.

The original idea was for a remake of “Squid Game” in the American market with Dennis Kelly, the creator of “Utopia,” commissioned to pen the series in 2024.

At the time, Netflix was eager to produce an American version of the hit, but the project’s developers faced challenges, along with some executive shifts at the streaming service, which have altered priorities.

As Fincher progressed to other movies, like the upcoming “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” the project also slowed down.

Instead, Netflix is reportedly exploring localized versions for different international markets (such as “Money Heist“) while Fincher’s interpretation is no longer included in their overall strategy.

Fincher is preparing for a few days of resort stays on “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” that are scheduled for this month.
