This Sunday, HBO Max will premiere the first five minutes of the season premiere of DC Studios’ “Lanterns,” a series set to air on HBO.
Starting in the mid-1990s, the clip shows young John Stewart watching an interview with a younger Hal Jordan portraying Henry Samiri, before experiencing some extremely unusual parenting methods. Then, in 2016, we encounter the mature John(played by Aaron Pierre) as he boards the older Hal Jordan(played by Kyle Chandler) in a vehicle.
In comic books and series, Green Lanterns are depicted as galactic peacekeepers, wearing rings that endow them with incredible abilities.
Following experienced Hal and John, the series investigates a murder in Rushville, Nebraska. Jordan believes it’s an extraterrestrial event, leading them to uncover deeper mysteries and confrontations. Set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe series, the tone resembles that of “True Detective” and other gritty dramas, which is characteristic of this network.
Chris Mundy, who executive produces and serves as showrunner for “True Detective: Night Country,” collaborates with Damon Lindelof, the writer behind “Watchmen,” and comic book writer Tom King on the series.
Along with Chandler and Pierre, the series also stars Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
“Lanterns” releases on HBO this Sunday.
