Just a day after witnessing the incredible Joe Hisaishi concert at Radio City Music Hall, a long-time collaborator, Hayao Miyazaki, is reportedly working on his next project.

According to a new Bloomberg report (via World), it has been revealed that 85-year-old Miyazaki remains in charge of creative decisions at Studio Ghibli, detailing the inner workings of the studio.

Goro, his son, is being considered as a possible creative successor, with Kenichi Yoda now taking charge as the studio’s new CEO. However, Goro asserts that recruiting outside filmmakers would be “utterly impossible” as long as Hayao remains involved – they’re practically one and the same.

The studio insists that it won’t transition to an IP-based content factory. But the biggest revelation is that Hayao is working on his next project after winning the Oscar for “The Boy and the Heron,” though nobody else seems to know what it is yet.

Yoda states that Hayao “visits the studio daily,” yet nobody understands what he’s doing; “only he knows precisely what he’s tackling.”

Previously, Goro hinted it was something that “sounded like an action-adventure-type film, reminiscent of the nostalgic old days,” suggesting something similar to “Castle in the Sky.”
