The choice is official: David Ellison has settled on the name for the merged Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros., once the merger is finalized, they will call it, Skydance.
The upcoming name change will reportedly be used as the corporate moniker for the two companies, though it will still be Paramount and Warner Bros. Will continue with those brands (much like Paramount Pictures did under Viacom or Universal Pictures did under Comcast) and keep their logos on their movies. The announcement follows shortly after the earlier news, which first broke hours ago through Puck News and later corroborated by industry sources, that Warner Bros., Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luca are not at their posts.
De Luca and Abdy will not be included in the management team led by Ellison after the merger, which is anticipated to close on October 6th. Instead, Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein from Paramount will take charge of both movie studios.
“Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history – we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling. We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.”
A recently unveiled video validates the logos being kept in this newly merged entity, which includes Paramount, Warner Bros., CBS, HBO Max, Paramount+, DC Comics, Nickelodeon, and CNN.
