On October 26th, Netflix announced that it has greenlit Season 2 of the series “Sanctuary”. Wataru Ichinose will reprise his leading role from Season 1.

The original series provides an exhilarating and rugged depiction of Kiyoshi Ose (Wataru Ichinose), a tough and nearly ruined delinquent—struggling with debt, violence, and a shattered family—as he strives to ascend in the sumo hierarchy as the young wrestler “Saruzakura.”

Following the release of Season 1, it topped the Top 10 in over 50 countries and regions, achieving 6th place on Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 (Non-English Series), sparking widespread interest.

The fresh visual offers “Saruzakura”—a character who is simultaneously irritating and appealing, making viewers unable to resist—displaying a peace sign with a determined look to convey “2.” Directors Kan Eguchi and screenwriter Tomoki Kanazawa are returning for the second season.

Upon the announcement of Season 2, Ichinose displayed his excitement, stating, “It’s determined that I’ll return to that dohyo(The dohyo is the raised clay ring where sumo bouts take place). Once more, I’ll put in my best effort. You’ll be looking forward to it,” he said enthusiastically.
