Apple TV+ Making Documentary About the History of the James Bond Films’ Music

Following its success release of several documentaries focused on the music industry, Apple TV+ is now developing a documentary about the music and soundtracks of the James Bond movie franchise. The planned documentary, which is titled The Sound of 007, will explore the history of the soundtracks for the films, which span throughout the past six decades, Deadline is reporting.

The documentary is being directed by Mat Whitecross and produced by MGM, Eon Productions and Ventureland. The latter two companies previously worked together on the movie, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, which was released in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film series in 2012.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the movie franchise, The Sound of 007 will have its worldwide premiere in October. Dr. No, the first screen adaptation of author Ian Fleming’s hit book series the film franchise is based on, was released in 1962.

The Sound of 007 will explore the development of James Bond‘s iconic movie theme music, as well as the theme songs from the various films, including Sam Smith’s track, Writing’s on the Wall, from the 2015 movie, Spectre; Adele’s Academy and Grammy Award-winning tune, Skyfall, from the 2012 film of the same name; and Madonna’s song, Die Another Day, from the 2002 movie of the same name. The Sound of 007 will also feature interviews with the musicians and filmmakers who worked on the soundtracks, as well as archive material.

The Sound of 007 will join other several other high-profile documentaries and docuseries released by Apple TV+ over the past few years. The streaming service has also unveiled the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize Award-winning movie, Boys State; The Me You Can’t See; and 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything, a docuseries that shows how the musical icons of the time were influenced by the changing tides of history.
