Film star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and broadcast journalist Maria Shriver are officially divorced, now that a complicated property agreement has been settled. The change in the former couple’s status comes about 10 years after they announced they intended to end their marriage.
TMZ reported that the divorce was mediated by a private judge, who finished hammering out the decree earlier this month, however it also needed a sitting jurist to sign off on it in Los Angeles Superior Court, which didn’t happen until Tuesday. The deal carved up a combined fortune of about $400 million, which included a Brentwood mansion, Idaho vacation home and several investment properties.
The pair had no prenuptial agreement so their assets were divided equally.Schwarzenegger and Shriver were married in 1986 and have four adult children together. They broke up in 2011 after it became public that the True Lies and Terminator star had fathered Joseph Baena with the family’s housekeeper, Patty Baena. Schwarzenegger has been dating physical therapist Heather Milligan for more than eight years. Shriver has been in a long-term relationship with political consultant Matthew Dowd.
