Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer And Regina Hall To Host Oscars

The hosts for this year’s Academy Awards have been confirmed, as first reported by Variety. The news will be officially announced on tomorrow’s telecast of Good Morning America on ABC. Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall will share the job, likely splitting the show into three one-hour segments, though the specific breakdown has yet to be determined. Producer Will Packer has been hard at work on figuring out the best structure for the show, which needs to do well considering last year’s record lowest-rated program.

Other aspects of the Oscars remain up in the air, though the awards will be given out at the Dolby Theatre rather than last year’s Union Setting location. The Academy is not requiring COVID-19 vaccinations and may not enforce masks if Los Angeles no longer has a mandate by that time.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to announce more next week, well ahead of the March 27th show.

All three actresses have been hard at work throughout the pandemic.

Sykes appeared in season two of HBO Max’s The Other Two and in the Netflix series The Upshaws, which has been renewed for a second season. Schumer starred in A24’s The Humans and headlines the upcoming Life and Beth, premiering on Hulu next month. Hall appeared on television in the final season of Showtime’s Black Monday and Hulu’s limited series Nine Perfect Strangers, and starred opposite Sterling K. Brown in Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, which debuted at Sundance and has been jointly acquired by Focus and Peacock for a day-and-date theatrical and streaming release later this year.

Nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were unveiled last week. The Power of the Dog leads with twelve bids, followed by Dune with ten. Check out the full list of nominations here.
