Beef’ Season 2 Eyes Charles Melton and A-List Cast

Eight Primetime Emmys have been awarded to Netflix‘s ‘Beef‘, which includes one for Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology Series, Ali Wong and Steven Yuen received awards, along with Lee Sung Jin, the creator.

Now “Brokeback Mountain” co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are currently in discussions about reuniting for the second season of the show.  Deadline broke the news, saying that Charles Melton, a recent revelation from ‘May December‘, and Cailee Spaeny, a star of Sofia Coppola’s latest film, ‘Priscilla‘, are also being courted to play one of the couples, and the storyline for the second season will revolve around two feuding couples.

Netflix is close to giving the green light to the second season, but the deals are still in the early stages. We acknowledge that the scripts have just been initiated and that Netflix and A24 are prepared to commence production of the second season by late summer or fall.

Metacritic has given the Steven Yeun and Ali Wong-led first season an 86/10 score, which is just ahead of ‘I’m a Virgo‘ at 85/10, ‘The Last of Us‘ at 84/10, and ‘Poker Face‘ at 84/10.

Beef Season 1 was presented to subscribers with an experimental 10 episodes of a story about two strangers who get into a road rage incident but are unable to let go of their grudges. Their spiral into obsession and anger is what brought the limited story its success.

Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the series, talked about the possibility of a second season last month and said they’re currently waiting to find out if Netflix is interested, and on last Sunday, Lee Sung Jin accepted the umpteenth award for the limited series at the Spirit Awards. He said he underestimated the enjoyment of the dopamine that comes with winning, and that he will miss it.

I guess Netflix viewers may have something new to look forward to.
