Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel “East of Eden“, which is starring Florence Pugh.
Zoe Kazan is a writer and executive producer for Anonymous Content and Endeavor Content. Elia Kazan, the grandfather of Zoe, famously adapted the book for the screen in 1955 and James Dean appeared in his first major screen role.
The Trask family and two sons competing for the attention of their farmer father are depicted in a multi-generational story based on the Biblical Cain and Abel story set around the Salinas Valley in California.
Pugh plays the book’s iconic antiheroine Cathy Ames, the estranged and mentally unstable wife of the farmer and a cold and cruel mother to the boys.
The series was written by Kazan over two years, and she previously stated that her intention was to adapt the vast, sprawling, three-generational entirety of it. The series was shot in New Zealand.
Co-starring are Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, Joe Anders as Aron Trask, and Hoon Lee.
Garth Davis will helm the first four episodes, while Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre will direct the remaining three episodes.
